How Does CEREC Prime Scan Help With Same-Day Root Canal and Crown Treatment?

In a traditional root canal procedure, the dentist would drill into a damaged tooth to reach the pulp chamber before cleaning and sterilizing it. The dentist would then cap the tooth with a temporary crown, which would be replaced with a permanent one a few weeks later. 

A CEREC procedure cuts this waiting period to a single day. Here’s what the process looks like:

1. After the root canal, the dentist scans your mouth with Prime Scan to take a digital impression of the tooth in need of a crown.
2. The scan is then sent to a 3-D printer that uses CAD/CAM (Computed-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology to create a digital model of the tooth.
3. The machine mills a 3D crown out of ceramic in under 30 minutes.
4. Lastly, the dentist polishes the new crown and fits it inside your mouth.
